Five new members of Virginia Beach’s City Council take office on January 1st, 2023.
We believe their first action should be repealing the resolution passed at the December 13th meeting directing the city manager to develop a public input process for a potential 2023 referendum on changing the city’s election system.
Our new election system has provided citizens direct representation and allowed candidates to campaign without the costs of running expensive city-wide campaigns.
If you agree that changing the system is not in the best interests of the city, please email your council members ASAP and ask that they repeal this resolution at their January 3rd meeting.
The deadline for adding this item to the agenda is tomorrow at 5pm.
You can email council at CityCouncil@vbgov.com and use the following as a basis for drafting your own message:
City Council Members,
At the December 13th, 2022 city council meeting, you approved a resolution directing the city manager to develop a public input process for a potential 2023 referendum on changing the city’s election process.
Our new election system has provided citizens direct representation and allowed candidates to campaign without the costs of running expensive city-wide campaigns.
I do not believe changing the system is in the best interests of the city and request that you vote to rescind the December 13th resolution during your January 3rd, 2023 meeting.
