On November 9th, 2021, the City of Virginia Beach will hold a public hearing on draft policies and procedures for a new Citizen Review Board to provide additional accountability to the police department. This board will have the authority to review the findings of the Police Department’s Internal Affairs Office and the ability to make recommendations on policy changes to the city council, city manager, and police chief.

According to the draft policies and procedures, the board would be made up of 11 voting and 2 non-voting members, appointed by the city council, who will eventually serve 3 year terms following a staggering of the length of the terms of the initial appointees.
