Due The Right Things, a grassroots organization serving as a community ombudsman for citizens seeking justice, accountability, transparency, & fairness in interactions with governmental & corporate entities, is calling for new elections for state legislative districts this November.
“There are seven (7) House of Delegates districts and four (4) State Senate districts in Hampton Roads that lack incumbents under the newly approved maps. There is now a void and lack of representation for the citizens of these localities. Elections must happen in November where there are resources to make this happen and it is the will of the people.,” said Due The Right Things President, Gary McCollum.
“The new maps were created because the old maps were deemed unconstitutional, gerrymandered, and protected incumbents. With new elections in November, our voting system will be more fair and our voices need to be heard, “ said Due the Right Things Co-founder, Dr. James Allen.
The next regularly scheduled election for the Virginia House of Delegates and State Senate is November of 2023. A lawsuit is currently pending in Federal Court to force an election this year under the new lines. Due to delays in the 2020 Census, Virginia did not receive the necessary data to hold elections under new lines in the year after the census, as has happened in previous redistricting cycles.
